Who We Are
The Great Plains Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (GP-CESU) is a partnership among 13 universities and 7 federal agency partners whose members strive to understand and protect the natural and cultural resources of the region.  The GP-CESU was established in October 2000 through a Cooperative Agreement among its partners.  The Agreement has since been renewed until 2010.

Our Mission
The mission of the Great Plains Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit is to determine the ecological state of public lands of the Great Plains and examine its future within the context of private lands.  This determination is focused on improving the scientific basis for managing ecosystems in the region, through more active and interactive technical assistance, research, and education among the partner institutions and agencies.

GP-CESU Guidance
The GP-CESU is guided by an Executive Committee and a Managers Committee.  This Executive Committee is comprised of at least one Technical Representative from each partner agency and institution.  The Technical Representative contact information can be found in the Partners page of this web site.  The role of the Executive Committee is to develop, implement, and review governing documents of the GP-CESU; vote on new memberships to the GP-CESU; assist in preparing policies and guidelines when appropriate; serve as point of contact for the CESU at their institution/agency; and attend meetings of the GP-CESU.  The Managers Committee is comprised of one or more agency representatives from each partner agency.  They serve to provide advice and guidance on science priorities and CESU activities, review strategic and annual work plans, and assist in evaluating CESU performance.  The GP-CESU partnership is guided by a mission statement and strategic plan, as well as annual work plans.  Copies of these documents can be obtained in the Documents page of this web site.
